Emily Mietus

Emily Mietus is a visual artist whose practice spans painting, mixed media, and works on paper. Her work investigates the intersections of materiality, memory, and the liminal spaces between intention and accident.

Drawing from both the physical landscape and internal emotional terrain, Mietus builds layered surfaces that oscillate between control and surrender. Her process-driven approach embraces the unpredictable—allowing materials to guide the composition as much as deliberate gesture.

Mietus graduated from SUNY Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts. She speaks Mandarin Chinese.

Artist Statement

“I am interested in what happens when we stop trying to control the outcome. My paintings begin with structure—grids, geometry, deliberate marks—and then I systematically dismantle them. What remains is a record of that negotiation: the push and pull between order and entropy.”
